Thanks,

Definitly worth 350.00 if you have the time to fix it,I only have pictures on my cell phone but can send them on to your phone if you want to see pictures.
I got the Cell pic and its not half bad, looks like a 4" lift with 31's Navy Blue with silver flames. Gonna look at it tomorrow with a buddy that wants it if I decide against it.

There is NO way to get to it from underneith

I thought the "bezel" around the inst. cluster was all I needed to take off, but it looks like I might have to take the whole dash off just to get to the instrument cluster.

Has anybody had to do this before?

Is it worse than death? (or just about like going to the dentist?)

Thanks for your help in advance,

HOW TO: Adjust TPS Sensor Ford Fuel Injection models

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

The throttle position sensor is mounted on the end of the throttle body and tells the computer how far open or closed the throttle is. The TPS is pretty easy to understand how it works, it is a potentiometer just like your dimmer switch in the dash. Voltage is fed to the TPS by the signal return circuit. As the throttle is opened the TPS directs more voltage to the EEC and less down the voltage reference circuit. All of the following items will affect the TPS:

•Throttle Cable
•Throttle Body Cleanliness
•Vacuum leaks
•Air Filter
•Air Filter to Throttle Body Duct
•Engines general condition
•Harness and wire general condition

The TPS sensor has a great deal of influence on the fuel ratios and timing curves, because the TPS is a user interface sensor. The TPS is the closest thing you have to a phone call into EEC. EEC listens to your every command from the TPS. There is a TPS ratchet algorithm which continuously seeks the minimum throttle angle corresponding to a CLOSED THROTTLE position. This alleviates the necessity to set the throttle position sensor at an absolute position and compensates for system changes and differences between vehicles.

•Closed Throttle can be anywhere between 0.6-1.0 volts
•Part Throttle is triggered @ 0.04 volts above Closed Throttle
•Full Throttle is triggered @ 2.71 volts above Closed Throttle

Before testing the TPS or any other EFI component perform a self-test, trouble codes received during test can be used as a diagnostic tool along with other indicators. To test the TPS sensor you will need a volt meter. You need to back probe the harness while reading the voltage between the TPS and SIG RTN pins. The exact voltage you get at any one point is not of major concern; instead you need to watch for a smooth increase in voltage as the throttle is moved. A TPS that does not give a steady increase in voltage as the throttle is moved is faulty and needs to be replaced. Also check for mechanical problems associated with the throttle. Throttle linkage and cable can bind up, keeping the throttle from opening correctly. Some times the idle stop screw has been adjusted, this adjusts the base idle and moves where the TPS closed voltage. The TPS should not need adjustment, but once the idle screw has been tampered with, the TPS should be adjusted to match. If the idle is low and the TPS is high lots of problems will appear. If you need to grossly modify the TPS mounting holes to adjust Closed Throttle between 0.6-1.0 volts, you should recheck the idle stop screw first.

Throttle Position Sensor
Rotational Angle Signal Voltage
0 Under Travel 0.000
10 0.450
13 Closed Throttle 0.901
20 - 1.440
30 1.900
40 2.370
50 2.840
60 3.310
70 3.780
80 4.240
84 Full Throttle 4.538
90 Over Travel 4.538
100 5.00
Values were calculated for VREF = 5.0 volts.
These values may vary 3 percent due to sensor
and VREF variations.

Howdy from N AL, excuse my ignorance of this site, just discovered it so I'm still trying to figure it all out. I recently bought a '97 Mazda B2300 5spd SE Cab Plus and I'm really liking it especially the 26.9-27.3mpg. I had a '79 Ford Courier (made by Mazda) back in the mid 80's thru 93 when my son took it over so I thought I'd try another only to find out Ford made my Mazda. The way manufacturers do any more you can't tell the players without a scorecard. As I said I'm liking it so far and looking for more ways to increase fuel mileage, so far I've discovered a previous owner has installed a Tornado in the air intake between the MAP sensor and and throttle body in what looks like a silencer (increasingly tapered from 1.5" on inlet (where Tornado is) to approx. 2.75" on outlet with holes made into the tapered part) is this efficient? The outlet of the air filter is only 1.5" so there wouldn't be any air flow increase by removing that center section.

Hello, I have a 94 Ford Ranger 4x4 3.0 litre V6 and a 1354 Tcase. I have done the conversion and purchased teh correct gear for teh speedometer sensor. However I have to now replace the sleeved gear that is behind the output yoke in the t case (it is chewed up). I have been told I need the colors to match, but the tech page said nothing about changing the gear in teh tcase. Do I need to match the colors, or can I just get a stock white gear and it will mesh with the new maroon gear. If I have to color match, where can I get one?:icon_confused:
Thanks for the help

I Just purchased a 91 ranger with a 3.0 L v6 2wd w/od . I think its an a4ld but not sure
here is my problem..... when I bought this truck the front pump seal was blown (like falling out) I removed the transmission and replaced the front seal,
when I got it back together I found the the truck had no reverse. I have all foward gears, but its more complex than just a missing gear.

1. when in park it feels like there is a load on the engine when you try to rev the engine, wont rev over 3k rpm and does not rev freely.

2 when in reverse the truck rolls foward 10-12" and then stops with a jerk, feels like there is a load when you try to give it the gas but goes nowhere.

3. In neutral the truck will actuall drive ? (did not drive to see what happens)
if you shift into neutral while driving down the road it is neutral and engine revs freely.

I have all forward gears including OD. sometimes the transmission shifts fine and sometimes it wants to stick in gear but if you take foot off the gas and let the R's fall it will go to next gear. also sometimes it shifts fine and sometimes it hits hard like its got a shift kit. also sometimes it will hang in gear and not downshift untill you move shifter to a lower gear

Before you ask I did check to make sure that the linkage was properly adjusted and also the vac. line. Not sure if that pump seal (arround input shaft behind torque converter) is a symptom or not but im sure that the fact that was 1/2 blown out of the tranny and not just bad cant be a good sign.
I am currently driving the truck as a daily driver (my only vehicle) and it does ok but im sure im on the verge of disaster.

if anyone can help it would be great. I am totally Lost and as broke as the transmission.

My son just got his first truck. It's a 1993 Ranger 2WD. He will be getting his license in February so I have plenty of time to fix it up for him.

The first thing I will be doing is putting a new paint job on it for him. He's wanting me to paint it maroon so I am trying to find a cool maroon color that would look good. Any ideas here?

I also want to put some black 15" wheels on it and maybe some 30-9.50x15" tires, probably an all terrain like a BFG or something like that. I considered putting a locker in it but for a daily driver that may not be a great idea.

The suspension really needs some help, it's a tad wore out as far as soft springs go. So I would really like to put some new coil springs in it and gain about a 2" lift. I am having a hard time finding 2" lift coil springs. Can someone point me to a place to purchase these at? I have read through tons of pages here and discovered that the Skyjacker coils seem to be popular but I have no idea where to find them at.

I'm looking for other ideas to make this a truck he will be proud to own so any suggestion on what to do with the truck would be great.

Here is a pic of his truck.
