Got it as a daily driver/backup car, my main one is a 2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer. Grown up with Ford's, me and my dad restored a 1958 F100 and also have a 2004 F150 and 1956 Ford 800 series tractor in the overall family. Doing the valve covers on Ranger right now as they we're leaking pretty bad (2.9L V6), then going to do an ac recharge since it wasn't working and had to pull the compressor on it.. Look forward to hanging out here, and if anyone has any really hard questions, my moms boyfriend was a master mechanic for Ford and probably knows more about this era of Ford than anyone I know, which makes it handy.

Well, I don't have a Ranger just yet, but I'm definitely looking to get one soon to replace my current DD, a 2005 Impala. (Not that it's a bad car, I just can't carry the bigger stuff for my home improvement projects–and I always wanted a truck anyway :D )

I just test drove a great 2007 FX4L2 with 53,000 on it. I really like the truck, except it had an odd vibration around 50mph / 1800 rpm. The sales guy and I couldn't quite figure it out. It almost felt like the torque converter couldn't decide if it wanted to lock or not. OD on or off didn't change anything.

Does anybody think that this TRS thread is close to the culprit?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to joining the ranger community :woot:

My names Anthony and I've been larking around the forums for a few months now and I decided it was time to join and show off my Ranger.

I'm a 18 year old little munchkin who loves working on anything that has an engine. I'm currently going to school for my Automotive Service Tech ticket. I've been working on vehicles since I was able to walk. But enough about me, I have a 1989 Ranger STX and a 1988 Mustang with a 2.3 turbo swap and way to much work done to it.

Without further delay here are some pictures of my prides and joy.
1989 Ranger STX with 272,xxx KM's. Bought for $1500. Already did some body work and axle work.

My other project, 1988 Mustang 2.3 turbo swap, tons for work done to it, this car is stupid fast.... till I popped the rear end

Hiya! Generally speaking, I gravitate toward sportier cars, mainly smallish imports (I'll be looking for an old Miata or 240sx in the next year), but I like all that is motorsport. I've been struggling a bit financially (nobody's fault but my own) and needed to get out of the "scene" for a minute. I got a good deal on my mother's 99 B2500. I didn't think I was much of a truck guy, but I was wrong! I've had it a few years and recently lowered it, which I quickly decided wasn't for me and it's in the process of being lifted and refreshed. Most of the bushings are shot, as well as the hangers and shakles. Road salt is HORRIBLE! After that's all finished, which will hopefully be in a couple weeks, I'll have to change or have the timing belt changed as well as diagnose a lean running condition.

I'll be posting pics after it's lifted and I'm sure I'll be asking all manner of ridiculous questions as I work on it.

Hi I got a 91 Ranger xlt regular cab. It's a 3.0 m5od all stock. This thing turned into a hell of a project.

When I got it, it had one shitty spray paint black. I got tired of it and also thought how much I hate rust. Thus I began a complete exterior sand down/rust removal.

Right now the thing is like three colors. The only spots I didn't get around to sanding is behind the rear bumper and there's some rust I still need to remove off the tail gate. (I wanna use the old FORD logo, not the chrome). The only rust that was more than surface is two holes above the rear wheels and two tiny holes behind the rear tire. The lip around the wheel well is still even all intact. I started some bondo then stopped when I had to take it in for inspection. Turns out the rad support is shot as well as a leaf spring shackle that has a rust crack going 2/3 through it. Nice one.

I notice there's rust a little more north of the rad support so some custom work might be required for this. :icon_welder:

Here's some pics of how she sits now. Sorry Idk why my camera waas set so slow.

I'm thinking of getting a mid nineties Ranger for light hauling for house projects, etc. I used to have a 98 flareside extended cab, 3.0/5spd that I bought new as a daily driver, but found I didn't like the compromises you have to live with on a daily basis.

However, since this isn't my main car, and I want something that is a good truck (mine was) and cheap. So I'm probably gonna focus on 1995-2001 four cylinder manual trans standard cabs. I'd love a flareside, if I could find one.

Anyway, just signed up to see what issues there were and what I should look fo/look out for in a used Ranger.
