A friend of mine offered to sell me this truck and said it was good on fuel...anyone know what to look for and whether I should pass?

I haven't seen the vehicle so I have no idea what shape it is in...the words "Suburban" and "Diesel" do not conjure images of fuel efficiency or inspire me technically since I know very little about diesel engines.

TIA for any and all input!

One of my lads has one and he's always complaining about the fuel consumption but I don't know what year it is or whether that's pulling his trailer or not. He says he's using 18 to a 100 or just over 15 to a gallon imperial. He does drive it like it was a race car, so that might make a difference.

Crap mileage and not much power. Not to mention the noise and stink of diesel. Oh and the increased maintainence and repair costs.

I think I would probably pass on it. I don't think the GM 6.5L was ever known to be bulletproof like a 7.3L or a Cummins. I have heard of people getting 20mpg out of them though.

I'd do some research on the engines though. I'm no expert but it seems like they had some issues.
