Anyone here using Linux/Umbuntu for their operating system? I just switched my computer over to it and like it so far.

Yes, I use Ubuntu 8.10 on my home desktop, my parents desktop, and one of the servers at the office. Great O/S.

I started using Linux back 10 years ago when I was 16. Back then you had to do pretty much everything by hand. I spent a lot of time reading guides and hacking around, editing config files and beating my head on my desk. I've been back and forth, watching it grow. I can't believe how far it's come. Right now Ubuntu 8.10 is installed and I have it totally configured and haven't had to drop to the terminal to enter a command (except to kill x-windows when I broke it). It's just waiting for me to complete this build and get a case/PSU so I can have it as my main/storage system for browsing, chatting and downloading and use the Windows box solely for gaming and watching shows/movies. SOOOON!

What would be a good program for music? I was using Itunes before only because it kept my music orderly, which is a pet peeve of mine. I hate trying to listen to music and have it scrambled everywhere, so anything that can keep an organized library would work.

It's been a while since I used my desktop for music, but Amarok was great a couple of years ago.

You should just play with what already comes installed, they have libraries and all that. You can also search on the Synaptic Package Manager for mp3 players and you'll find a lot more. I personally use VLC and keep my own music pre-organized into folders so I know where everything is at.

Nah, I've configured Apache, FTP/Telnet, and SQL services but I never had to implement content filtering for anyone. Tell you what though, there is pretty much nothing out there I can't figure out with a search engine and a HOWTO :)

Yeah, I generally make my way through most everything given time and internet access. Until a couple of days ago, it had always been for fun though. Now I've got a Linux server running at the office and 100+ people depending on it. End users have a lot less patience than I do when it comes to getting issues sorted out.

Downloading a CD image of Ubuntu or Fedora and burning it to CD, then booting up with that CD would be the way to go.

Now if I could just get my laptop's wireless to work with Ubuntu, I wouldn't use Vista at all if I can help it...

AWESOME other people use Linux here. I use Ubuntu 8.04 and have been using Linux for 2 years. I took CIS126DL (Introduction to Unix/Linux) and I am currently taking CIS236DL (Linux system administration).
