The boy has a 99 Range with the PVH hubs. I think the right swap from reading on here is to get the front end parts from 95-01 explorer.
Thanks to the good article on this forum. So I went to the local salvage yard to make sure I could find the donor explorer. And I found an 01.
My question is there a cut off when the 01 was built to get the correct parts from?
Also can I just change the cv and the wheel bearings?
Thanks for the help on this
I guess I have a two part question on another Ranger for a transfer case swap.
Friend has 2000 with 3.0 with a bad 1354 transfer case. Automatic tranny.
I recently pulled a transfer case 1354 out of 00 or 01 with 4.0.
My question is will my transfer case fit his Ranger?
Took pictures of the tags.

Easy one 1st: 1354 transfer case came in 2 variants - manual and electric shift; no difference 2.3/2.5/3.0/4.0 or auto vs. manual transmission. You may find some differences in input and output connections, but you can always swap from old to new as the shafts are same.

For your donor Explorer, if it has solid rear axle, it is OK. If it has IRS, it isn't. Technically, through '03 Explorer Sports (the 2 dr ones) and thorough '05 Explorer Sport Trac also work (same solid rear axle criteria).

Just changing the CV shafts and the wheel bearings gets it done.

Yes, transfer case will fit

As for the front end 4WD
You can just use manual hubs to replace PVH units, AVM makes them, but also sold as Mile Marker or Rugged Ridge brands
Seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/AVM_hub_swap.shtml

What you are describing is a Live Axle swap, seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech/1998-2000-ford-ranger-pvh-hub-swap-to-live-axle/

Whole year of 2001 Explorer would have the front end parts you want
2002 Explorer was a different generation, 3rd Generation
