  • hey big jim m-
got a burnt #5 exhaust valve (94 4.0), leaning toward the un-american cheap fix. 141k on engine, no other apparent problems. pulled one head, replacing one valve & seal. waiting for other input, but time & money push a quick fix. any thoughts you've not already seen/discussed?
    thanks...
    Big Jim M,
Do you know a machine shop that will do head work and replace valves, keeps springs in the Austin, Bastrop, Cedar creek area? Everyone we've checked in Austin will do but doesn't want to put in new shit for some reason. Will do guides and a 2 angle. But that makes no sense to me at all.

    Big Jim M,
My Brother is getting my '94 4.0 OHV back together after you turning me onto that $495.00 short block! Thanks. Just wonder how much experience you have with having the heads ported/polished/flowed on a proper flow bench by a reuptable shop? Worth the cost/improved power/driveability for DD and off roading. Also putting in 4.56 to go with the 33s and probably an aussie locker in the front to go with the L/S in the rear. So it's not an issue of I need the 4.0 to pull the tires. I know it's in the gearing. Also wondering if the port/polish for the cost would make how much difference in fuel mileage? Also going to the flex-a-lite electric fan although I've read pros and cons for that. I have a gauge for temp and watch it, so know when to shut it off if shit quits working. And if it does I'll go to a flex fan. Three of those plastic ford fans since '05 and the trouble changning them, I'm done with that.
Thanks so far and any more thoughts.
    Jay
