I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding the brake lights on my 2001 ranger that I just purchased. I don't know much about electrical wiring and what not in cars but I have heard on some internet boards about a multiswitch, brake switch and fuses. I checked the fuses and I really don't think it is that. Does anyone know if these trucks have a common issue that will help me narrow it down. Thanks

Is the 3rd brake light working? or none of them?

I haven't spiced anything on it. In regards to the third brake light I will go check today, I didn't even think about it and the truck isn't at my place right now.

If none of your brake lights are working, it may be the BOO (brake on/off) switch located behind the pedal. Have someone watch the brake lights while you push in the switch contact with a screwdriver. You may have to give it a good push. If the light come on, see if you can adjust the position of the switch so that it's closer to the pedal. You can also try using some type of spacer on the contact.

I checked tonight and all the other lights work except for the three brake lights. I will check tomorrow with the brake switch to see if that is the issue. If anyone has any other ideas feel free to throw them my way as well. I just don't want to replace parts that don't need replaced if I don't have to.

Have you tried actually changing fuses with a known good one? Sometimes the fuses will blow, but it won't look like it is blown. Another thing to check would be grounds, though I would think they wouldn;t all go bad at once.

Got them going. Guy who had it last did some really stupid things with the fuses. Had to go through and move a lot of them around. Now on to the a/c.
