Have a 2000 ranger 3.0 2wd manual trans and inner gear stripped. I bought a transmission with little information and it turned out to be 4wd. I have my old transmission and can swap tailshafts covers but the output shafts are the same length but are different and different width and splines.

Q: will swapping the tailshaft cover allow lubrication to the 4wd shaft? What seal would i need for the driveshaft? Is there an interchangeable driveshaft i can use or will it have to be custom? And the last resort: should i buy the correct transmission? I already know estimated cost of custom driveshaft

Any help appreciated. Searched and failed to find good source

The 2wd and 4x4 main shafts are different lengths. The 4x4 main shaft will stick out the end of the 2wd tail stock.

Where are you located? I have a 2wd trans that I would like to convert to 4x4 and would do the work to convert them, if you are close enough.

Just noticed i posted in the wrong section. Feel free to move this thread

Located in san diego ca. Sorry bud
