Should be fairly straightforward.... was smelling coolant after I'd shut the truck off and started noticing a small leak in the mornings when I'd go to work. Coolant is dripping from this part here, but I can't find any good diagrams to figure out what it is..... I'm assuming it's either the tstat or water pump and it's in line with a hose coming from the upper engine. Either way, you can see where it's dripping on the closer shot there...

Heater control valve.

We get that question at least once a month here.

Gotcha... seems like it should be quick to replace. How long would you figure? Obviously I don't know jack about vehicles so I'll have to probably take it to somebody.... I've only ever done thermostats and basic maintenance.

If you've done a T-stat, you can do this.

Drain some coolant.

Remove clamps from hoses on each end of valve.

Remove valve from hoses.

Unhook vacuum hose.

Install new valve on hoses.

Reattach vacuum hose.

Fill coolant.

yeah I got looking around after I posted that and it seems pretty straightforward.... one more stupid question. None of the things I saw posted suggested draining coolant first. Is that just to minimize the amount coming out when the hoses come off?

Yup.

Your coolant could be 5, almost 6, years old if its never been changed. Now might be a good time to change it. I would.

ok cool, thanks.. yeah it hasn't been changed since I got the truck 3 years ago at least so I'll look into that. Needs some other stuff looked at anyway. Thanks for the help

And whatever you do...DO NOT HAVE A NAKED GIRL NEARBY WHEN YOU DO ANY WORK ON YOUR TRUCK....lol Just a bit of humor before you start a task you have never done before. It is easy, Bro. Follow those instructions and you will be a-ok!!!

Id rather have a naked chick near me so when I get stressed that doesn't go right she can "calm me" down, if you know what I mean.:D

Someone has to be there to make you a sandwich when you get hungry. She might as well be naked. :icon_thumby:
