Clicking noise from the ecu

92 ranger supercab xlt 4.0l.
------------------

There's been a ticking/ clicking noise coming from the passenger side footwell recently and I think its the ECU computer.

Happens around 60kph, throttle doesn't seem to matter.

Any ideas what it is? - :icon_confused:

-- Is there a relay in there?

There is no relay in there. All the switching in the computer happens with transistors.

what do you make of the sound though?

It sounds to me like a relay?
..and Im postive its in the cabin with me.. :icon_surprised:

I know on my 84 Bronco 2 I had that same noise, but when the clicking would start the truck would start cutting out and would actually die at times. I pulled the kick plate off and found a relay down there that I yanked out and its been running great ever since. Not sure on the newer trucks how they're set up but I wouldn't go taking out relays on these newer trucks cuz I doubt they would run LOL.

Exactly what i'm afraid of, whatever it is is on its way out, no doubt- I took the panel off and here is what I see:

What is the pink/green wire device? Its passenger side by your left foot

That bottom picture with the pink/green wires I believe is the fuel pump shut of switch which is inertia activated during a collision to stop fuel delivery. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That wouldn't be causing the clicking though would it?
Do you know which relay you pulled that stopped it//?

Throw the truck in neutral while its clicking and rolling down straight empty road then turn tbe motor off and see if the clicking/ticking persists

The fuel pump cutoff switch I don't think makes any noise, if it is its faulty. Does this thing click even say sitting in your driveway? If so that would be a good time to pull that cover off the kick panel and have a listen. Its kind of hard to find noises when you are driving down the road.

As far as the relay I'm speaking of your truck don't have it by the looks of your pictures.

Does your vehicle run perfectly fine even when you hear the clicking noise? Any gauges jumping around, lights dimming, power loss, etc. when this clicking noise is happening?

This may sound stupid but maybe a rock, nail, screw, etc in your tire. (been there done that)

Ok I found the link to your audio and got a listen at it. Sounds to me like there's something up in your dash that is lose. Maybe something in your glove box, or dash panel somewhere, but that isn't a relay.

I tried rolling in neutral at speed- the noise continues with the engine off.

this could be a/c related with the air flow door that allows air flow to be diverted from the top vents to bottom vents or both vents. it could also be a module for like 4x4 or airbags in the dash. then again it could just be your suspension or something.

The noise was located and was found to be a metal u-nut on the very end of the plastic wheel liner jittering against another metal surface.. one of the bolts must have fallen out.

You may all take (1) cheap shot at my foolishness.
