My GF has a 98 Toyota Rav 4 all wheel drive 4cyl manual tranny. We are moving and need to tow it. Uhaul says we need a full trailer, not the car dolly, because it cannot be towed on two wheels. Is this true? Why?

Thanks
Jeremy

i don't know about the rav4 with the awd but i did hall a cj8 that had quadralot aka awd and with the trans in neutral in was stll trying to turn the front axle with the front wheels on the tow dolly i guess it was the way the tranfercase was designed anyways we were still able to hall it on the tow dolly just removed the rear driveshaft this isn't a toyota exact answer but the priciple is the same hope this helped

I'd post this is the "Towing" forum for best results

Disconnect the rear driveshaft and securely hang it up and you are fine....Disconnect it from the axle not the t-case...

Thanks for the help. I called the Uhaul place and talked to them about it. Said the same thing as above about disconnecting the drive shaft. Thanks again!!
