gooseneck for ford ranger


where did you pick up the hitch its self?
 
Any RV Dealer or truck outfitter could get you one.
 
Plus they are pretty darn simple. You get a generic plate style for $100, or a folding one for $150 and then a couple of pieces of angle to go under the bed between the frame rails. Then bolt the plate down through them. I didn't know anyone made them specifically for the Ranger.

thats a really cool set up there. awesome truck too. what are the specs on it? i love the height and tire size
 
truck is 99 off road. 4.0 5speed. 4.10 gears with towing package. i actually built my own hitch for the truck, it is bolted through the bed though when I put air bags on I am gonna move hitch directly to frame. Any other questions are totally welcome. I would love to see more rangers pulling goosenecks. it is much safer when u do it rite.

You're pretty much going to have to build your own like this guy did. Or have one built from someone/place who builds trailers to order. Either way a one-off trailer. But a niiiiice trailer...:icon_welder:

I was thinking a 6'x8' trailer for mine. And have the rear gate be able to fold down onto a support so I could make it 11' long if I needed to (I figured a 3' gate will hopefully be good). I was gonna try to keep mine pretty low to the ground. Single 5,000lb Drop axle (if anything for the extra braking power) converted back to 5x4.5 bolt pattern and run 215/85R16 tires so I would have matching tire sizes on the truck (~31") and 2 spares than can be used in either position. Should be good for a 3-4,000 lb load tops.

With a gooseneck I would tow 8,000# with a Ranger. A trailer with a pair of 3,500# axles, for instance. Load 1,000# of tongue weight on it--that's within the capabilities of a Ranger. The trailer does its own braking, so no worries there. A 4.0 will get that going. I'd prefer a C5 for a trans though. The 2.8 converter is loose behind a 4.0, which if perfect for this. And it's able to be built strong enough for a 460, so this application would be a picnic.

Have fun driving 45 MPH down the interstate...and smashing it to the floor on hills and screaming at redline. Towing in at a gross of 10,700 pounds this summer with my truck was not fun power wise, try tossing another 2k on top of that. Essh.

No joke.Compact trucks aren't meant for towing things that weight close to 5tons.If you wanna tow something and to it efficiently start looking at diesels.
 
I tow in flatlands around northeastern ohio. My Gooseneck is 6x14 with a pair of 6000# dexter axles with brakes on both axles. The ranger handles 6000-6500 ok but I wouldnt get carried away. even with trailer brakes it could get scary.
