my 93 has auto hubs and when i put it into 4x4 going 1-5 mph i get a loud clunk/snap noise and then the hubs start grinding(sounds like a air rachet) and it will keep clunking. so ive been messing with this problem for a while now i took the hubs off cleaned em and cheacked for broken parts, all good but just for good measure i replaced them with good junkyard ones and still does the same thing, the only thing i have not done yet is take the pumpkin out because i havent had time, to me it sounds like its skipping a tooth or something.......ive never worked on a ford before and it ticks me off so anyone have any help for me?????????

Save opening the pumpkin till last.
You said you got junk yard hubs.
Did you get ALL the parts?
On auto hubs, when you pull the hub off, some parts stay on the axle shaft ends, hub nut, unless you remove the snap ring and slide them off.

If those parts are broken on YOUR truck, then you would not have corrected the problem.

Also, inside the hub, in the center, is a small 1/2 snap ring that has to stay in place, it may be missing on both your hubs and the juck yard hubs. Grease may hide it from view.

and

How did you rule out the front driveshaft??

"Good" & "Auto Hubs" are generally regarded as a contradiction in terms.
