I have a home recording studio, a buddy of mine came over this weekend wanting to record some Lullaby's for his kids.

He's got a great voice, but he's pretty limited in the guitar area, but I didn't want to overdub myself playing guitar, mainly because his timing is all over the place LOL, but also I didn't want to make it sound sterile, I prefer it the way he did it.

Anyway, here's what we laid down this weekend.

He had come over a while back, seems a friend of his had died and he wanted to record a couple of songs to play at the funeral.

This guy was putting siding on my house. I heard him signing so I asked him if he ever recorded anything. I handed him a guitar and put a microphone in front of him and this is what we ended up with.

My buddy Brian (also my guitar teacher) did this gershwin tune from porgy and bess. It's more jazzy than the other stuff.

Some stuff I've done. This is more classic rock than the stuff above. I play all the guitars and programmed the drum tracks.

This one is kind of interesting. It's the first thing I ever recorded. It was LONG before I knew about click tracks, cross fades and many other studio tricks. I multi-layered Boston's song Hitch a Ride. A guy named Tommy DeCarlo downloaded and added vocals. I remember him emailing me with the link and was worried I would be upset LOL, needless to say his singing and recording abilities were WAY above mine at the time.

After Brad Delph committed suicide, Boston was auditioning singers, Tommy sent in a demo that he had done. Tom Shultz says he never even considered listening to Tommy's demo (the most Tommy had ever done was sing Kareoke at the bowling alley). But that he had come home one afternoon and his wife was listening to something. Shultz said he asked when Brad had recorded it, His wife said "this isn't Brad", Shultz said "sure it is, I've worked with him for 30 years, I can tell his voice". That's when he sat down and listened to Tommy's demo. Tommy is now touring with Boston.

Mackie ...lets see 14 fader so 2 probably split to make 16 inputs with 4 sub groups and a master.4 Aux per channel with 3-4 switchable to 5-6 maybe with the first 2 pre and the other post fader.3 band eq per channel with a sweepable mid.
A stereo 31 band eq at 1/3 octave and a dbx 160 compressor limiter,some nice crown amps,2 furman power supplys and I cant make out the rest.

Sinnhieser Wireless, the 31 band eq is a DBX 231, the dbx compressor is freakin awesome! and of course the two channel bbe sonic maximizer. missing from your eye is the cry baby rack wah, the Korg rack tuner and the GCP with two GCX switches for front and FX LOOP.

Of course you couldn't see what's in the drawers. Here is a breakdown of the entire signal path. Since I did this, I have since removed quite a bit from the path and added a G-Major.

I forgot to add, I took the utility out from the mackie and sent that into an EMU 1820m that's connected to my DAW, then I sent from the EMU back to the Mackie for playback. The Dynaudio near fields are now on my computer desk closer for mixing.

Of course the Mackie out goes to the dbx driverack ;-)
