I swapped an 88 2.9 into a 89 ranger that was a 2.9 until it took a dump. Not sure what happened a I bought it without an engine. Anyway my problem is I cannot get it to run at all. It seems like the ignition timing is correct determined with a timing light. But after cranking ALOT I can pull a plug and there isn't the slightest hint of gas on the plug. So that leads me to think the injectors aren't firing. The fuel rail has pressure and fuel pump runs as it should. I'm wondering if the 88 engine doesn't have a crank sensor and the 89 is suppose to? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!!

Never mind I figured it out. The injectors I put in it were junk. Put in a different set I had laying around and it was good.

Good work :icon_thumby:

Glad we could help :icon_rofl:

Just for future reference the Ranger 2.9l always had a distributor, the sensor in the distributor along with the TFI module is how the computer read the "crank position"/RPM, it is the PIP signal
CKP(crank position) sensors are only used on distributorless spark systems, and yes if this one sensor fails there would be no spark and no fuel.
