I'm currently tearing the top end out of my Ranger. The previous owner had the engine apart in the past and there are a lot of questionable things I'm finding. I've got the upper intake off and I've found that the wiring harness snaked its way between the upper and lower intakes. Is this correct? I also can find no way to disconnect these wires to get it out of the way. There is a whole bunch of electric taped and/or wire nutted splicedover on the drivers side.

The main harness does run through the runners. You should be able to unplug the ijnector harness near the IAC, undo about 8 connectors near the steering shaft, and a few 8mm bolts for ground loops and lay the whole harness over the passenger fender.

I don't know how true that will still be if it's hacked up as bad as you say.
