Last night, I started the Ranger for the first time in a few months after tearing apart the top end, replacing one head and swapping in the M5OD.

Couple issues I need to work through. I have an exhaust leak at the manifold I need to take care of, the distributor is a tooth off (I can time it, but I don't like where the distributor harness ends up), and the starter won't disengage.

But I have good oil pressure, no lifter noise and no lower end noise so far and it runs pretty well when the timing's close.

Still have a fair amount to do, but there's a chance it will be on the road again this weekend...

Got the timing set after putting the right starter in it.

Runs pretty well.

Idle occassionally stumbles so I have to do some reading about that. Other times it idles very nicely.

Still have some lite lifter ticking. Better than before I tore it apart, but I suppose there's nothing I can do short of a full rebuild. Doesn't seem to hurt anything.

I've got a little ATF in the oil. Going to run it up to temp a few times in the garage, then change the oil out and hopefully take it for a spin tomorrow.

Still have to hook up the driveshafts, and a bunch of little things.

Feels good to have it running again. We're having some warm temps (high 40s) today and I should be able to pull it out and work on it in the sun instead of cramped in the garage.
