The Ecoboost vs 460 is apples and oranges IMO. The 460 is a work horse and that's how it was designed, not so with the Eco. The Eco is a car engine designed to work in a truck, which is fine for towing when needed. The FE was designed to tow ALL THE TIME. If you put them to the task doing the same job as a tow vehicle, the Eco will die long before the FE will.
Actually they both started out in cars.

No doubt dad's will probably last longer. It is only driven when needed due to its fuel burn.

Yes, that's true. I couldn't remember the actual series name. Lima is the build plant. There is also a 370 in the same family that was used in big trucks, IIRC f-350 and up.
I've owned a few 429's and 460's. First one I owned was a 429 I pulled from a 68 Merc Marquis and put into a 68 Torino 2dr coupe. That was a great combo. Never had a chance to time it at the track but I was doing consistent 105 mph on L60/15 bias ply. That would be probably a 13.3 - 13.5 seconds in the 1/4. Not bad for $300 [1980 dollars] total investment.
Currently I have 3 460's, one in an 1989 RV, one in a 1977 f250, and a c8ve block and heads I plan on rebuilding someday.

Ill be honest ive personally owned 2 460s. One was a carbed model out of a 78 lincoln that was in an 89 F250, the other is my current 97. Other then the ridiculious amount of power they seem to produce, im not impressed. The one in the 89 burned coolant/oil at an alarming rate (athough it still would make short work of the 35x12.50s that were on it), and my 97 has been more less totally rebuilt and it dont even have 90,000 on it. Granted, i have no idea how either were treated before me.


That being said, ive had quite a few 351M/400s and while they make no where near the power (evcept the slightly massaged 400 i had in a 78 F350, which could of fought with a 460 and held its own), i never had a issue with any of them. Even though they seem to be universally hated.

I will say this though, my 97 460 gets 13 mpg, which impressed me.

Had a 460 in my 90 F350 with a ZF-5, it was a tow beast. It either had a 4,400 lb camper on it dragging an IH Scout behind it or it was pulling a 10,000lb 5th wheel. That was the only one I've owned, but we had a bunch of trucks at work with'um, that's one heck of an engine...an absolute work horse, just like the V-10.

Im really diggin that dually. The 87-91 "bricknose" trucks rarely get the love they deserve. I for one think they are sharp, and had the best dash/inteior layout of any ford truck ever.

My son has it and the camper now in Oregon, it still works for a living. Except now it hauls the camper and LOTSA CORDS of wood.
