I have my 99 ranger 4x4 with abs and when ever there is the least mit of moisture built up on my brakes.... like the moring dew or in the rain, my brakes tend to grab way too hard and it ends up locking up a wheel cause of it..... for a quick sencond but I never here the abs kick in and the system works (because michigan was coated with ice this morning and i had to be in 4wd low just to manage the back roads). I have done a full brake job to the truck over the past year or so. Has any one else had this problem before? It really bugs the hell outta me so any suggestions would be great!!!

The work i've done;

---FRONT---
- Replaced pads
- Replaced rotors
- Cleans and replaced abs senors

---REAR---
- Replaced Pads
- Replaced Drums
- Replaced cylinders and springs

Its just shitty pads retaining moisture, mine do it all the time, just got to be more careful in the winter time, its a fairly common issue, better pads might fix it

When the guy at the parts store says "We got these cheap pads here, or for 10 dollars more we have these good ones"..... Spend the extra 10 bucks, it'll fix your problem.

Mine have always done that. I have high end pads, rotors, shoes and drums and it still does it. I don't have abs at all (strange I know).

I usually just "ride" them out of the driveway to dry them off and that seems to work.

I worked for a parts store and know what you are saying. Trust me pay the extra it is well worth it.

Don't buy bonded brake shoes, only riveted ones. The bonded ones swell when they get moisture in them and make them lock up easily.

Just ride them lightly for just a little bit. They will feel better. Mine does it really bad too. It makes you look stupid as hell when you ease onto the brakes and skid the tires with a ton of room in front of you:icon_twisted:

My old '02 Edge would do the same thing, its a common issue with Rangers and I think Ford even has a TSB for it. Its really no big deal though.

My credo
Sucks to be you
My 01 does it all the time, just when it first starts out, then it clears up. I just tag the brakes a couple of times when I start out and it goes away.

yeh my truck has done that since I have owned it over the last 6 years. I think just riding your brakes for a 100 ft is a good idea to dry them off.

My 84 2wd does this too. Made me look stupid the first time or two before I got used to it, but at least no one was watching!

I've put some $50 ray bestos in the front but I had the rear rebuilt by a shop and they may have put some jank pads on the rear. Thats a good suggestion. I'll have to pick up some rear shoes when I rotate my tires in a week or so.
