I have the opportunity for a smoking deal on a donor Explorer 4.0 SOHC vehicle for the swap on my 97 2.3L. After reading all I've read about the swaps here, was wondering if I'd just be better off pulling and rebuilding my 2.3. I'm only looking for a little more power since the 2.3 will max out at about 65mph uphill and has almost gotten me run over more times than I care to remember. I would want to rebuild the SOHC before dropping it in since it runs, but has fairly high mileage. It is also an AT and my 2.3 is a 5 spd so I'd have to source the manual that they put behind the 4.0 Rangers/Explorers I guess. Donor Explorer would come complete so I'd have everything I'd need, it just has a trashed body. I plan on parting out what I don't use to try and recoup some of the expense.
suggestions/ideas/warnings/etc.?
Bear with me as I'm really a Dodge/Cummins guy but bought this ranger a few years ago as a daily driver for work.
Thanks in advance.
