Did a head gasket on my 2.9 around 500 miles ago. Its running pretty good. I have a miss at around 1000 rpm. I pulled it down to re-torque everything and adjust the valves again. Number five spark plug is a darker color than the other plugs. I got to the adjustment for the cylinder in question and the intake lifter was sloppy. At first I thought it was collapsed. I removed the snap ring and pulled the lifter apart. Nothing was broken. The spring seemed to be a little compressed so I put another spring from another lifter in it. I think the lifter is ok but has no oil in it. How do I adjust it?

Install lifter and push rod, tighten rocker until it is snug against push rod
Rotate crank/cam until the valve is closed all the way, you can feel/see push rod moving up or down on the cam for that valve, make sure it is all the way down.
Loosen rocker then retighten until it is just touching push rod, that is 0 lash, rocker shouldn't rock, lol.
Now tighten rocker nut 1 and 1/2 turns, this pushes lifter spring down to about 1/2 travel.
This is assuming the other rockers were adjusted the same way, 1.5 turns after 0 lash
