Hey every one. Just getting ready to drop the 2.3 transmission out and swap it with what I hope is a better one. This one has had a bad whine in all gears except 4th for about 8 years. The noise has stayed about the same but recently my advance auto slave cylinder has started to whine when the clutch is not pressed in. I figure it's as good of time as any to address a few issues and hopefully end up with a better running truck.

So the pocket bearing is bad. Not sure you need a whole trans over it.

Nice to have a spare though.

I picked up the trans and a 8.8 explorer LSD rear for $300. I figured at that price I couldn't go wrong. It also came with a new slave so I felt like it was a good deal.

So the transmission swap went smooth until it was time to test the new set up out. I tried to depress the clutch and it was very stiff. When I pressed harder the clutch pedal rod snapped in half. Not sure if I can repair the rod or not but I realized I forgot to open the bleeder valve on the slave. The transmission swap only took about 4 hours so that's the positive part but now I need to see about fixing the rod and bleeding the slave.

Quick connect may not have been on all the way so was still closed/sealed, so master has no where to send the fluid and clutch pedal can't be pushed down
You should open bleeder when installing a transmission, but not a big deal if you don't, if slave was full of air and bleeder was closed pedal would just go to the floor and not disengage clutch disc, air compresses, so that wasn't the issue.

New master comes with clutch pedal rod attached

"They" changed the Quick Connect type around 1992 I believe so master must match slave's year, not sure which one 1993 used

My truck is a 93.I picked up a new clutch master cylinder for a 1992 since it comes with a metal rod. I didn't know that there was a difference between the years.

The 92 master bolted up to every thing and the clutch rod is the same except its metal. I do have pedal pressure however I am having a hell of a time blessing this thing.

I am going to play around with it a little tomorrow and see if I can do any thing with it. The quick disconnect popped off when I tried to reverse bleed it.

The issue was the retaining clip for the quick disconnect. I am still using the 92 master on it and the clutch doesn't brake contact until the pedal is almost to the ground. No question in my mind that the system needs more bleeding. If that doesn't improve it I will just buckle down and buy a 93 unit.
