Hello from SW Ohio.

I have a 1997 2.3 Ford Ranger five speed. I need another engine. Will the 2.3 and 2.5 SOHC engines interchange?

Welcome to TRS :)

You have a Lima engine, also called Pinto engine, first used in 1974, in a pinto, lol.

1995-1997 2.3l would be plug and play
Can't use 1994 or earlier, crank sensor issues

1998-2001.5 are stroked 2.3ls so 2.5l and can be used, but, you will need to swap your current intake manifold with injectors over to the 2.5l
1998 and up Rangers used different fuel system

2.3l SOHC and 2.5l SOHC used the same heads so parts swap over fine, all engine parts are the same, the 2.5l just had different crank and longer connecting rods for longer stroke

2.5l was used until mid 2001, then replaced with the Duratec 2.3l DOHC engine
So 2001 Ranger could have either engine
