Just got back from camping with my dad, nephew, and one of his buddies.

90* heat all weekend and the 2.5 hr drive went actually pretty well.

Rusty 2.0 was tasked with towing the boat, a 1960 Glassmagic powered by a 1962 Evinrude starflite II 75.

Trip went well, i was a bit nervous letting my nephew drive rusty 2.0, espicially towing the 1500lbs or so in the heat at 65mph, but the ol gal did admirably and returned 22.5mpg.

The 97 did fine, till the last 3 miles of the trip home when it devolped a hellua missfire, not sure what yet, thinking something got hot (coil, TFI?) 460 running 3rd at 65mph towing 7-7200lbs returned 8.2mpg :)

Pic as we were leaving...

That’s awesome! I really admire your gumption, Rusty! :icon_thumby:

PS - 22.5 MPG is wayyyyyyyy better than I’ll ever get out of my 4.0, laden or not. :icon_confused:

Lol. 22.5 is alot better then i figured it would average. As far as gumption, i just figure hell, these things were meant to be used. Kinda like the looks i got when i used to roll up to the boat launch towing that boat behind the 69 charger i had :)

Looks like a fun time. Those two recreational toys (camper and boat) are some of the most expensive to maintain and deal with. I know boats are always prone to breaking or leaking or not working and I work at an RV dealership so I see messed up campers and RV's on the daily. A lot of people don't maintain things like seals and stuff. A little maintenance goes a long way.
