When you pull the old engine and remove the parts you need for your new long block, keep the heads. The 89 2.9 had redesigned heads that cured some weak points that were prone to cracking. Since your block froze and broke, the heads may be trashed too. When you have the extra cash, an automotive machine shop can magnaflux them to check for cracks. Good luck on your project.
