ran into somethin I didn't see coming. .swapping to 10" brakes

I got a set of 10" rear drum backing plates. BUT . . the mounting is much wider than my Ranger housing. So . did Ford have a large bearing rear for Explorers? That is what these were supposed to have come off of. They are 10" x 2 1/2". I thought maybe a full size Ford truck, but they are 10", not 11". Anyone help with some info?

So . I'm thinking maybe it was from a 31 spline rear, bigger bearing? Can anyone confirm?

Yes, 31 spline have a bigger mounting spacing for the backing plates.

And the end bearings are bigger in the 31 spline. If you take a good look at the axle tubes the 28 spline version necks down towards the end where the 31 keeps the same diameter all the way out.

I didn't realize the drum brake Explorers used a big axle as well. Oh well, time to switch for the right ones. Thanks
