Considering a 5.0 swap for my 06 ranger 4x4 auto trans.

Will it work without to much trouble?

Would use an expo/mountaineer 5.0.
If I understand correctly it should just mount right in, but what about all the electrical crap. And crap like AC.

Just trying to build up some knowledge. Won't happen anytime soon. But my timing chain just started to tick, so I'll have to pull the engine to fix it, while its out why not just swap to a 5.0 lol. And sell the 4.0

I can't see it being all that much more work than anything that's been done already. Only real issue I can see is you won't pass emissions if you have them in your area unless there is an exemption. You would have to use a mod engine to pass, I don't recall the 5.0L being put in a vehicle after 2000. Also a 302 doesn't just mount in, you'll be changing the transmission and t-case most likely as well as new driveshafts. The most practical swap for that would be to use a 302 explorer as a donor and swap it all over, including the electronics.

Here's one we did at my shop. Pretty straight forward. Very minor electrical. Everything from the explorer works. A/C, radiator, condenser, hoses, lines everything. Get a fuel rail from a 99-01 Explorer though. It is returnless like your 06 Ranger.

Thanks folks.

And what I meant by drop in is it will fit without needing to fab mounts.

Dixie, believe me, if I had the money it would be done already lol.

I guess my biggest concern is the PATS.
