Just thought I'd throw this out here for posteriosrity.

I was at the junk yard two weekend ago keeping an eye out for a newer center console for my BII, when I ran across one of the later style double cup holder in a console that looked the same as mine, sitting in the bed of a 2nd gen regular cab. The console itself was in bad shape, but the cup holder was good, so I decided to experiment.

Anyway, it works. It was a bit tight, but it just clips right in.

After

So anyone that has that screwy single cup holder, yes you can upgrade without changing your whole console out.

EDIT: For those who don't know, the rubber cup holder insert in the first picture pulls out to reveal to screws in the corners. Take out those two and the two next to the coin holder, and the whole black piece just lifts out.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Well, your shifter guy sure is grinning about it.

Looks like a good swap idea!

Hope it finds its way to the parts interchange sticky.

Never had a factory console in a ranger. A proper cupholder is something I've hankered after for a long time. Picked up a an older one-holer and a 2-holer in the junkyards over the years but other things have taken precedence over putting them in. They and the rangers is in storage for now, awaiting a more ambitious tomorrow.

So, I'm curious - what were the 2 switches in the piece you swapped out. Anything that needed relocation or just surplus to requirements?

They used same basic console just about forever in RBV's. At least the early 90's up until 11. Cupholder and armrest interchange galore.

So those switches got relocated to the trash can. The spot they are in is just a holder for something like a check book or something. I used to keep my phone and some spare fuses in it. The switches themselves are a power window master switch that got stuck and caught on fire, so they were trashed. Since they belong in the door I didn't have to worry about re-mounting them or anything.

This really has me wanting to yank the 60/40 bench out of my ’92 Ranger and go for bucket seats more than ever. I currently have no cupholder whatsoever and it’s driving me nuts. Holding a cold Coke between the legs on a hot day has its benefits, but it gets old after a while. I’ve even been thinking of picking up one of those stupid free-floating plastic cupholder/change combo jobbies that they sell at all the parts stores. But the way I drive, there’s zero chance she’d stay put...
