(Lift Blocks + Torsion Crank) on 99 Ranger XLT 4x4 = ??Yes / No??

I've been looking for a way to lift my '99 ranger for cheap but still get a good drivable truck. I was thinking of replacing the 2" stock blocks with 4" blocks. Then cranking the torsion bars to level out the front. Does this seem like a good way to go about doing a minor lift? I'm think I'm gonna do this next Spring (College Tuition). Some input or advice would be much appreciated, for this is my first lift project. I have a 1999 Ranger XLT Sport 4x4, 5 speed auto, 4.0L, 8.8 / 3.73 / Limited-Slip, Torsion Front End.

About the best you can do with the torsion bars is to level it with the (stock) rear. I don't recommend going more than 1.5", because all you are doing is adjusting the suspension downward. So whatever amount you lift it by is how much downtravel you lose. With a 4" block on the rear you can't turn the bars enough to level it with that. If you go 1.5" on the torsion bars and leave the rear alone (the front is the problem anyway) you can fit a 32" tire no problem or a narrow 33". Narrow 33" being a 33x10.50-15 or 285/75-16.
If you want more lift for low money go with a body lift.

Thanks for the input. I've always help my father out with his '78 bronco but this is my first solo project. Just wanted to know what I was getting into before the whole truck is in pieces.

I did a 1.5 inch crank on my brother in laws ranger, it leveled it out pretty good. I wouldnt go any more, b/c with that lift the truck only had 1.5 inches of travel left, compared to 3 inches stock. I put an add a leaf in the rear too to keep the factory rake too it, plus it help wiht the 4 wheeler in tbe bed.

I did a 1 1/2" torsion crank but backed off to 3/4" due to harsh ride and the damage that comes from t-bar cranks. I'm now back to within official Ford ride height specs, was able to get a good alignment and it goes over bumps a lot better than when it was cranked tighter. I've got the pucks on order for a 1" body lift.

I just got done with doing a ~1" torsion crank and it looks a lot better. It looks more aggressive, leveled out the truck, and rides great. Probably gonna get an alignment next friday. Thanks for the input, I've never worked on these lame front ends until now.
