Okay so I bought a 98 escort wagon recently, and it has a few problems I was hoping you guys could help with.

First, dash light dont work. The warning lights (Check engine, turn signals, ect) all work fine, but there is no illumination behind the gauges. The dimmer works properly on the center console stuff where the stereo/fan is... So is it likely just bulbs? I read something about the switch being poorly built, and causing the same sort of symptoms? Where is the switch located? And how easy is it to pull the dash on one of these?

My second problem is the blower motor stopped working recently. Im thinking the only options are bad blower motor, bad resistor, bad relay, or bad wiring... Is there anything specific to these cars that might also effect this?

I have checked all fuses and they are fine. I also have a problem with the wiring to the back hatch - all the wires are chewed up from the hatch closing on them... But I dont think that would have anything to do with these two problems...

Blower motor has been figured out.

Connector is all corroded. Unplugging and plugging it back in fixed it, so I now need to go back and clean it up...

Also I was wondering what sort of real-life mileage can someone expect from this? I feel like Im getting less than potential. I get like 12l/100km (20 mpg) almost all city driving.

It threw a code about a month ago, p1131 - which is something about the 02 sensor not switching to and from lean I think? I cleared the code, and after 300 km it still hasn't come back on... The car drives fine, but when I stop at a light, the longer I sit the lower the idle gets (to a point, it never stalls but it feels like its about to some times). These symptoms (combined with bad fuel economy) make me think its a vacuum leak. Any other ideas?
