How's this for mileage?

...2003 xlt 4.0 automatic with winter tires still on. 315 .miles till the fuel light came on. Not bad?

I remember one time i thought i was getting amazing mileage from my 77 F250...

Untill it was 3 am, 50 mi from home, and i was outta fuel while the gauge was still a bit over a 1/4

Really....How in the hell can you tell mileage without knowing the amount of fuel you started out with. Are you a salesman that can't tell the WHOLE story?
FFS Give us the the info we NEED to figure out your mileage.

PS; sorry if I sound snark, but this type of question gets my goat.

...well, I thought it would be a given that I'm starting out with a full tank for what its worth. If you are so educated on ford rangers...I should not have to spell it out for you. Do you think I actually you got 315 miles with a 4.0 on a half or 3/4 tank,,,??? CMON keep the sarcasm to yourself.

Rangers do have different sizes of fuel tanks...

How many different size fuel tanks come on a 2003 ford ranger xlt 4.0??

haha this is funny bickering. I imagine its got a 20 gallon tank. so that's just under 16 mpg. not bad for a 4.0. is it 4wd? big tires? if your tires are bigger than your mileage wont be correct. bigger tires means 1 mile on dash is actually 1.1 miles on the ground. make sense? smaller tires would be opposite. 1 mile on dash would be 0.9 miles on the ground. if you are like me then you just put 10-20 bucks in every few days. gas around here goes up and down every few days. I'm superstitious and believe something bad happens to my truck when I fill it completely full.

..Its 4wd. Stock 16" tire size. Not trying to argue or start a pissing contest or anything... Lol. I have been on a lot of difference forums...and there is no need for being so snappy as the first reply. Not a good way to make someone feel welcome. Thanks for your reply.

I was only aware of 1 size tank for a 2003 ford ranger " xlt " 4.0. Im stopping in at the ford dealer on Monday to find out for sure....In case I ever need one.

Agreed with the snappy remarks. Some people get pretty full of themselves on forums.

Standard cab short box may be different than supercab. STD cab longboxes came and went too.

Mine is 17 gal, std cab longbox ‘85. My owners manual shows shorter wheelbase trucks having a 15.2 gallon tank.

The tanks in newer trucks are generally plastic and in theory should last darn near forever.

I didn’t intend to be snappy but for those of us that are not really up on a different generation of truck you range doesn’t mean much. Mpg is much more universal.

Without concrete numbers all you're doing is farting in the wind.
You don't need to know the size of the tank but you do need to know how much fuel you used. Most people use gallons. You're not the first to use tanks but not all tanks are the same size and even those that are the same size, not all people fill them to the same level.
Keep track of the gallons you use/miles driven and we can tell you if it's good mileage.

Reminds me of the Texas and New England farmer's joke:

..what is a rough estimate on how many gallon(s) is left when the fuel light comes on? Would 1 gallon be pretty accurate?
