Long story short, I took my crank for my 2.9 in to get reground and the shop found a crack in it and replaced mine with one they rebuild a few years ago.

I went to install it this weekend and when I went to check the journals with a plastigage I couldnt get a reading on the mains and could actually look and see the gap around the crank with the plastigage sitting on it untouched. When i checked the rod bearings I was able to get a reading on them. Im hoping that the shop told me the wrong size bearings to buy but I was wondering if there could be any other causes for this.

I went and rented a new torque wrench to make sure my wrench wasn't bust and made sure to oil the bolts well before installing them to get the correct torque.

You probably just need thicker bearings.

I would bet that the shop had the crank "turned" to repair the bearing surfaces. That means you need to have the shop measure the journals so you can buy bearing that fit that crank. The crank should have been stamped with the new size on it someplace. Sort of like 20/10 or whatever. That would mean the rods are .020 under size and the rods are .010 under size (or the other way around, I forget).

But, to be sure have it measured so you can get the right bearings.

yeah they said it was 10/10 but its looking like 20/10 or 30/10. Just wanted to make sure it there wasn't anything stupid I was over looking, im not very familiar with the bottom end of engines but it doesn't seem to complex :D
Guess im going to be taking it back in and getting it measured again and hopefully they tell me the correct size this time.
