what's up ranger fan's!! I am looking to do an engine swap on my 94 4x4 std cab it has the 3.0 with almost 200k on it, burn's a little oil not much power anyhow I don't want a v-8 so I am looking at a 4.0, has anyone done this swap? I would like to get a head start on getting all the part's I would need before I start tearing in to it, any help would be great! thank you

4.0 swaps are common. Did you search around here or any other Ranger forums? I'm assuming your planning on the 4.0 OHV since your truck is a 94.
Swapping to the 4.0 is basically the same amount of work as any other engine swap (including a 5.0 swap). You'll have to replace everything that touches the engine (trans, wiring harness, PCM, exhaust).

I swapped a 4.0 into my 99 with a 3.0. The only reason I didn't swap a 5.0 is because it would be an auto. I wish I would have swapped a sohc 4.0 in, which I'm going to do here soon, but the ohv is still a good motor and does have a good amount more power than the 3.0

You will need the engine wire harness, PCM, exhaust y-pipe/manifolds, tranny, air tube/maf to fit the 4.0, throttle cable
