Can 89 2.9 engine bolt into an 87 bii?

Hi, I want to pick up an 89 2.9 engine from an ad, just want to confirm will it bolt to my 87 bronco ii without any adaptors? Thank you!

If the 87 had either the 2.8 or 2.9L V6, yes. Same Cologne bell housing pattern.

ALL 2.8 and 2.9L V6 are the Cologne bolt pattern. Same engine.

There are only two parts on your engine that are different between the 87 and 89 engine. The upper intake, and the driver's exhaust manifold. Those changed because the EGR system was deleted in 88. The 89 will lack a knock sensor, which can just be transferred from the older engine.

Those are the only production changed that you need to be worried about.
