I have a 1997 ford Ranger regular cab. It's a 4 cylinder. I was wondering if my 2005 chevy equinox would be able to tow the ranger. The towing capacity for the chevy is 3500. I have never towed a car before and I am moving to california next year for the military. Please respond if you can help me.

Thanks

Ryan

Ship one, neither is rated to tow the other. Are you on the east coast? Have you driven west to the coast? I can tell you there is no way in hell I'd want to come down I-80 out of the Serria Nevadas with either behind me even with trailer brakes. I'd want something a lot bigger, F250 or 350 Super Duty shure, Ranger or Chevy with 3500 Gross trailer. NO.

PS: I will bet you bringing all your stuff as well? Then the max trailer weight is not 3500 it is 3500 minus the weight of you and your stuff. Check for you GCWR (gross combine weight rating) I will bet the Chevy is between 7500 and 8500, and that you have 1000 to 1500lb payload capacity. And if you weigh the truck EMPTY, no people or gear the truck will weigh 4000 (or just under) to 4500 lbs. So with these numbers you have 7500 minus 4000 which gives you 3500 or your max trailer weight but if you but you, the dog, girlfriend, and 500lbs of gear (total 700lbs), then you get 7500 minus 4000 minus 700 giving you a max trailer weight of 2800 (thats the trailer and what it is carring):shok:

Your ranger empty will be at about the 3200 lbs. mark I know this because I go to the junk yard every weekend and I am at 3100 lbs every time. So you would be at the max with the chevy. With the extra cost of gas and wear and tear on it just have it shipped out. It will be cheaper in the long run.
