I couldn't find the answer so here I am again.
I'm about 90% sure I have a bad purge valve because I'm getting strong gasoline Vapors in the engine compartment. BUT! 2 Caps or plugs are missing from the top of the canister what can I use /do until I fix the system?

I was thinking in my not so Infinite Wisdom that two pieces of plastic tubing pushed in or over where the Caps would be and vent them Outdoors of the truck. I'm also thinking that the Caps or plugs that are missing make the vapors stay in the canister long enough that they pushed away up into the intake on the throttle body?

I called the local yard for another canister see if I can get one instead of buying new

The solenoid valve is normally closed put 12 volts to it it opened so at this point I'm wondering what makes the purge valve solenoid open I can't seem to find that but I'm thinking there's something back at the gas tank?

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Could you gas vapor smell be simply coming from the uncapped ports on the canister? I would try capping those or connecting them with hose to wherever they go and see if that fixes the issue before trying anything more expensive or complicated.

It is not a very complicated system. near as I can tell the only electrical component is the solenoid and that is operated by the PCM so, you're probably right it's probably just to canister itself

I actually drove the truck today no gas smell whatsoever, so maybe it was just vapors building up in the tank because it was parked for a couple weeks.
