So i have a 1998 Ford ranger XLT rwd with the 3.0 v6 that im dropping in soon, it has 128,928 miles and I'm wondering if i should convert it to 4wd the cheapest way by buying a parts truck the same year as mine, And would i have to change the frame with it? I'd like to lift it but if it had a 2wd frame and 4wd suspension it wouldnt be compatible? What would be the smartest way of doing it?

This. The normal 2wd 98+ will not accept 4x4 parts from a 4x4. The frames and cross members are different. You can do a SAS and put a Dana 30 or something else under it to convert to 4x4, but its a lot more work than just selling and buying a 4x4. Not to mention swapping the tranny and t-case. Sorry

Do your market research. Vehicle prices vary depending on the region.

Also condition will play a big part. You have a fairly low mileage truck for its age, but you are on its second engine, so as a buyer I would be concerned about the rest of the trucks mechanical condition.

Also your truck is 18 years old, so what about rust? Both body and underside.

And as hoosier said, location makes a difference.

Yes its fairly new and I want it to be a project truck for the road, I am considering putting a 302 or a 351 in it after working potato harvest, and also the rust is surface rust but i am going to have to use a welder because the rear end of the frame is cracked so i'll refabricate it. And it's engine in it is seized rn because the kid i got it from beat the living piss out of it and had no respect for his vheicle. I am thinking of making it a drag truck cause its rwd and It'd be funny racing people in a little ranger lol
