I have a 1996 4.0 4x4 Ranger, and decided to give rebuilding the automatic transmission a go myself. I finished all of the internals and valve body without really inspecting the inside of the case. There's some gouges around the holes where the adjustment bolts are located, and I don't know where to go from here. Can I file them out or do I need to find a new case? If I need a new case will any of the 4r or 5r ones work or do I need another 4r55e?

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
That’s the way they are. I always try to remove any pieces of flash that looks like it’s ready to break off.

Thanks. That's the answer I was hoping for. Now to put it all back together and pray that it works.

Good luck, got any questions while doing the overhaul just ask. Lot of members on here with great tips and tricks on doing this.
