The other day the transmission "went out" in my 1990 bronco ii. i was going down the road at 25mph and the whole front end went "bang" I was able to limp it home in 2nd gear when i got it home it was smoking bad. Now i have reverse just fine but all my drive gears are gone. we put a new trans in 800 miles ago. My dad thinks its a broken imput shaft because thats what it was last time. Last time it did the same thing the front end went bang then that was all she wrote. i have had someone tell me it was the torque converter. What do you guys think. PLEASE respond FAST.

I think you'll have to pull the transmission to determine the cause of the problem, and you'll have to pull the transmission in order to fix it, so it's probably a good idea to go ahead and start by pulling the transmission.

Once you get it off, it should be a lot easier to figure out what failed.
