The June/July issue of Frontline is pretty much all RANGER.

I got a copy from our local dealer, pretty interesting read. Didn't know how confidential it was though.

This is what I've been waiting for. I wanted to see what the standard features were and what was included in the packages. Overall I'd say I'm not super impressed but still on the fence between this and an F150.

Not knowing any #'s my biggest gripe right now is I wish they would put an integrated brake controller on it like they do with a F-150.

I kinda wish that it was going to have a 4-Auto mode like the F150. Looks like just 2H, 4H, and 4L. It's my understanding that the 4-Auto mode is helpful in bad weather road driving such as a snowy highway, etc. I suppose you could just put it in 4-H though....

I hate that stuff.

I go to work and spin a tire getting on the highway... hey its icy I better take it easy and I kick it in 4wd.

Ask the wife how she got along... road was fine for her. Her Edge kicks into AWD seamlessly and she has no idea if it is slick or not unless it is packed snow or something obviously visible.

To each his own.
4A is not the same as regular 4Hi. It is only available on F150 Lariat trim and above. It operates more like AWD than 4 Hi but is not a true AWD and it uses traction control and other nannies. It can be used on dry roads at any speed without harming the components.

Moms third gen Explorer had 4A, operated the same as my wife’s edge for all intents and purposes.

It had real 4wd but still did the same road condition masking

At least give it a light to come on “hey, you are in 4wd now”

Both my wife and mother marveled how good their vehicles were in snow because they never needed to use 4wd/AWD.

I don't think you understand. The '4A' is on the rotary knob with 2H, 4H, and 4L. Must be selected. Doesn't just come on automatically.

Why do you think he's confused about that?

The only one I have been around had a switch like this. There was no 2wd option. (2002 Explorer XLT)

85_Ranger4x4:

The current F-150 shifter - when equipped with the AWD transfer case.

As you can see, 2wd and 4a are separate selections. (And you pull the knob to engage the rear diff locker.

It's still a system that (when selected) engages 4wd automatically as needed, but can be driven on the street in that mode. I'm not sure what the perceived disagreement is.

No disagreement from me. Maybe the new ones do but I do wish they had some indication that says when it kicks in/out of 4wd.

Its probably one of those things I would never use anyway, if I need 4wd I can just put it in 4wd and not keep working a clutch in the t-case every time I go to take off.

My knowledge on new ones is limited, my F-150 has a lever on the floor. :icon_twisted:
