I'm in the process of selling a '93 Taurus for my Mom, and obviously the water pump needs replaced, because it is howling, and leaking coolant onto the cat and smoking at every red-light. 3.0L, GL model

Question:
I read a couple google searches that this job is a big pain in the arse, because you have to loosen a couple motor bolts, and tilt the whole engine to get the bottom water pump bolts out. Is this remotely true? Just want to know how much time I'm getting into to work on this.

Thanks,
Will

I have done quite a few transverse mounted engine water pumps(and timing belts).
But not a Taurus 3.0l.

I watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k95KAfSeLU

And a couple more.
It looks pretty much the same as the ones I have done, yes, tight squeeze on some bolts/nuts but no moving the engine needed.
You will need to jack up the passenger side front and remove that tire for easier access to the underside rear of engine, USE A JACK STAND.

Thank you. That looks just like my motor. I will use a jack stand. :)

I got everything apart, and cleaned the gasket surface on the block tonight. Took about an hour.

I didn't have to jack the car in my situation, nor did I have to unbolt and rock the motor. Taking the wiper reservoir and coolant reservoir tanks out helps ALOT. It wasn't that bad. I have some pix I'll post later.

Thanks again,
Will
