Noticed the radiator fan is pretty well cracked.

Thought it would be easy enough to pick up a new replacement. Turns out none of my usual parts suppliers carry them.

Is this a dealer only part? I'd prefer not to put in an electric fan, but I don't want the fan to come apart.

Go to your local pick-a-part and get one. My local Autozone can get the old manual fans and fan clutches. The ones they can get are the metal blade fans, and require a spacer kit, however they can be ordered online and shipped to your house if need be.

I know I was able to get a new 4.0 fan blade from Rockauto. Never looked for a 2.9 fan blade, but they might have those as well.

'87 with 2.9.

I checked rockauto, ebay, advanceauto. No one has a listing for it.

I'm heading to the junkyard this weekend. May see if I can find one or one close enough.

Apparently for the 2.9, it's not available at RockAuto. Although according to one ebay seller the 89+ 2.9 is the same as the 3.0 blades. Not sure I'd trust that though. Might be worth a look in the yard. The 3.0 parts are listed as available. I did notice that they turn the opposite direction from the 4.0 in the pictures. I'd be willing to bet that most Ford fan blades mount to the clutch the same way.

Edit: It seems that a few years are simply missing from the systems that everybody uses to inventory parts. Strange. It's also listed a s fitting the 2.8.

I cracked a blade on the OEM plastic fan when turning the engine over by hand. Honestly the breaker bar barely touched it???

I could not find an OEM replacement but found a 15" diameter at Summit that fit the clutch on my 1988 2.9L. I took the fan clutch with me to check the fit.
