86 B II Dash 4X4 Light Not Working

Recently I had my transmission rebuilt, A4LD.. (86 Bronco II). When I got my Bronco back I noticed the lights in the floor shifter didn't work. I pulled the 4x4 / Transmission housing inside on the hump and found they didn't connect the wire for the light. No big deal, hooked it up and worked great.... Today I went and put the Bronco in 4WD and noticed the light on the dash did not come on... Is there another connector I could have missed?

How does the indicator light know when the 4WD has been established?

If you have an electric shift motor then the motor on the transfer case has 7 wires, 8 if there is an electric clutch

2 wires run the motor, 12v/ground
5 wires are for the dash lights
Inside the motors gear housing is a contact wheel
When you select 4high, for example, the 4wd controller "knows" which contacts on that wheel should be open and which closed when transfer cases shift rod is at 4H position
Controller applies power to motor until it is in the correct position

So check those wires

If you have a manual shift transfer case then there may have been a contact on the shift arm, but with manual shifter all you need to do is look down at shift arm position so not sure it had a light

It has manual hubs... The 4X4 light used to work. Sounds stupid but I hate something when it doesn't work. My tach died about a month or so ago and It's making me crazy, I found a NOS tach that I am ordering. But this light is about to drive me nuts also. :shout:

The indicator light is located between the tach and spedometer in that black area full o lights.

I need to change the Tachometer. This week I am going to pull the cluster and clean all the connections and check the bulbs.. Will keep you posted...
