I can't seem to find a rabs valve anywhere except the dealer, and its nearly $600. The truck is only really worth about $800,so that is extremely unreasonable. I would like to have abs on the back, but not if it costs more than the truck is worth. Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper? If not I'll be bypassing the system. I absolutely need back brakes,so any help would be appreciated.

Is it anything like this: A1 Cardone 12-2029 ?

If so I'd still call that expensive but, much better.

I don't think you need to bypass the rabs system. If the rabs valve is not working, the rear brakes still work. You just don't get the anti-lock feature which doesn't work all that well anyway.

When my 89 STX rabs valve quit working, I did replace it because I wanted the rear to have the anti-lock feature. It was considerably less expensive back then (early 90s), but still not cheap.

Is that the one that's up by the battery in the engine compartment? If so I thought that the 93-94 didn't have that one? I def don't have back brakes,so if it isn't the rabs valve what could it be?

The rabs valve on my 89 was not up by the battery. As I recall it was under the vehicle on the driver side. I think it was on the inside of the frame somewhere. I don't think I actually replaced the valve. I am pretty sure it was the control module that attaches to the valve that I replaced.

I don't know exactly how the system works but I guess if the valve was stuck in the closed position, it may keep the rear brakes from working. In that case you might have to by-pass it, if you cannot find a replacement valve.

My credo
Wut?
I took mine apart and cleaned it. It had a bit of dirt in it that was keeping the brass piston from moving like it should.

Depending on where the piston decides to get stuck, it may cause you to not have rear brakes. You may not be able to bleed the rear brakes. This is how I discovered something was wrong.
