Turn Signal Issue

I recently had a run in with a ditch, now none of my turn signals work. I believe its a switch, but before I delve into an electrical mess, I wanna know more.

Ive tested the relays and fuses, they all are recieving power. When I push the hazard switch, they light up as they should. The turn signal clicks like it should, but they simply do not light up. I think its the switch.. thoughts?

Its a 93 ranger, 2.3l, stick shift, 2wd.

Fuse #5 (15A) powers turn signals.

Fuse #4 powers the Hazard flashers (same lamps get illuminated by a different power source and flasher, through different contacts of the same switch).

Verify fuse 5 is good and supplying power in "Run", try another flasher (cheap) before you replace the switch. I've got the schematic if you really want it, PM me your e-mail address. I'll send ALL the 93 schematics that I already have in .pdf. Might want to clean up your Inbox if you are under any size constraints.

I checked all the fuses/relays underneath the hood, and all the 15A fuses under the dash look fine. I pulled the flasher, Ill try that. Which exactly is #5 under the dash?

There is no #5 fuse underneath the hood, and the ones under the dash are not numbered.


Heading out for a new flasher now.

BTW: After pulling the flasher, the hazards still work.

Replacing the flasher did not work.

This same thing happened with my 93 explorer (same interior i think?), look at the inside of the fuse box cover under the dash, mine had a diagram with numbers, and I think it might have indeed been number 5

I had a good diagram I found on the internet of it, but can't find it right now, since I no longer have the explorer, sorry

Well i have a 98 ranger and i had an issue with turn workin on and off. So what i did is unscrewed the steering colum cover and removed it. and there was a pigtail (cluster) of wires i checked (wiggled) each one and found one that was loose. So i pushed it all the way in then took a tiny piece of electral tape stuffed it in the connecter hole to hold the wire in and pluged the pigtail back in... Wamo both my turn signals work now.

but when i tilted my steering wheel down the damn thing went out again tilted it back up and worked. GRrrr so took it apart again got some slack from the wire and snugged up the connection again. And haven't had a prob since. Now i'm assuming the older model rangers should have a similar set up for the connections of turn signals blinkers hazardes. ect. Goood luck. :icon_thumby:

I wonder if the steering column wiring is the culprit for my problem:

What happens is that when the right hand blinker is on, the exterior light only flashes if I'm not braking; whenever I brake, flashing is suspended. Also, the dash light for the right hand turn signal goes on whenever I touch the brake.

All of the fuses in the cab check out.

Vehicle: 1997 Ford Ranger 2wd 2.3L 5-speed
