How's everyone doing this evening? I've been doing some research for the last few months on swapping in a 88 2.3t from a t-bird. I used to own a 88 turbo coupe best car I ever had and now want it in my 94 ranger. I've already got one just need to pick it up. Has 12x,xxx miles and already has a cam swap. I'm getting everything from CPU harness to oil pan along with the t5 trans and 8.8 373 lsd rear end. Haven't been able to find or read between the lines for my answer. Will my CPU allow 20+lbs of boost like the factory tbird CPU does? Also the premium switch, will I need to hook it up or can I "hot wire" for 93 only as it will only run 93...?? Any help would be great. It's a 94 2wd 2.3lima 5speed 155xxx miles.

You need to rewire the stock Ranger harness for the thunderbird engine, there's drawings for the T bird and a '91 Ranger (same as what you have) in the tech section somewhere, it's only a few wires.

On the octane switch, you can connect it no problem, it is actually turned on by default in the Ranger harness which was part of why I had so much detonation when I first swapped mine. The octane switch wire is the same as the wire that puts voltage back to the computer telling it that the fuel pump is on...

There are a lot of things you can do to mix and match parts between the T bird and Ranger engines, on mine I converted to the DIS to get rid of the distributor, it's not too hard just involves drilling the block for the crank sensor. I wish I would have done some other things differently when I did mine but no longer have the donor engines I once did...

Thank you, I don't want to drill and tap holes or I'd just swap internals and go threw all of that. Just a simple swap to have some fun. So the switch is already grounded for 93 octane in the ranger harness...? I'm only running 93 in it so no need for a switch. Also I only need to use the 3 wires from maf for vam and 1 ref wire for 5v that I t into to where?? Also the other sensor I need to add will be bap and that's all for additional sensors? Then rewire ignition which I'm studying stingers write up.

I think that's about it, it's really not too hard...
