Hi, Well I broke the evap line when I lowered the fuel tank on an 02 Ranger with a gas 3.0
It broke the connector at the rear of the tank where it went into the line going back to the canister.
Do I have to repair or can I simply plug both ends of this line?

Many thanks!

It is an emission system so yes, it needs to be repaired.
Check engine light(CEL) will come on without it.

If your area requires "smog" inspections then you won't pass.

And CEL being on all the time also prevents computer from warning you when there is a "real" problem.

While tank is down I would repair it.

Will engine still run with out that connection, yes.

If you broke the tank it is going to be a problem unless you can just replace the fitting. Not sure how you would repair that tank. If you broke the evap canister get one from a yard. They never (according to Ford) go bad.

But, bottom line, you need to fix it.

If you're in Ontario I have a 92 fuel tank sitting at the side of my house and an extra canister...the line can be replaced with what I'd imagine would be fuel grade tubing if there is such a thing...

If I remember the Adsm08 lesson on this, the line is supposed to return vapours from the tank to the evap canister and they get drawn into the combustion on startup causing a big explosion that will wipe out a block or two...no, wait...that's a nuclear warhead...the vapours just get burned off without further a dew...
