transmission 5r44e to 4r44e compatibility

Hi I have a 2002 ford ranger xlt 3.0 2wd auto and the 5r44e in it and it completely came apart and I have to get the truck running I have a 4r44e trans from a 2000 xlt 2wd 3.0 ranger in my garage will that work in my 2002 till I can get the 5r44e fixed I'm wondering any input would be greatly appreciated thank you

never tried so can't say yes or no.
Going from 5 speed to 4 speed won't cause any damage but since both are computer controlled it may not shift correctly.
I would think the computer would have a "limp home" mode when transmission control isn't what it expects, but can't say for sure.

No I just got it all done so without the 4 speed computer and harness it won't even start

if it won't crank, start motor doesn't turn, then NSS(neutral safety switch) is not connected, so starter relay won't work
NSS is on the trans just above the shift linkage, it also runs Reverse lights
NSS should be the the same on both transmissions
If switch is connected try starting in Neutral, maybe you haven't got the cable setup correctly for Park

You can put a manual in place of an automatic and computer will still run the engine, you just get a CEL since computer can't find the trans
So transmission is not part of the engine starting and running as far as computer is concerned

Turn the key on and jump the selnoid and see how it drives but yea the computer wont like the 4 speed
