I have a chiltons, its a new distributor that was previously installed and ran for about 3 months. Im confused though on the moving of the plug wires, so my rotor will no longer be pointing at my #1 wire?

You are correct. If the dist is 180 out then pointing at no 1 is the wrong place for it to point. Move all the wires in sequence 180* and you will have the same action as moving the dist pointer 180*.
It's good for a try to see if the cam is out of sync with the crank.

you probably are off on your valve timing, you need to set wires back to original positions and pull belt back off line up marks on cam (both valves should be closed on No. 1 cyl.), crank (on TDC), and AUX shaft that dist runs on (rotor inside cap should point to cyl. No. 1) then reinstall belt and verify firing order. it should fire up if it pops through the intake either valve timing is off or firing order is wrong.

also in my opinion you should reverse firing order as a diagnostic tool to see if Dist is 180 out. then pull dist and reinstall it right so that firing order is correct. (it can save you headaches later when you have forgotten that you reversed the firing order)
