ford ranger 1990 4.0

I need help i try to change my transmission oil but the filter looks different then the one i bought the one is on the truck thy told me is for a newer year but it doesnt have the stickeer on of any info on the transmission any ideas?

Have a look here to see if you can ID it: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/AutoTrans.shtml

Any trans from a 2.9l or 4.0l could have been used, but if you know iit is newer and that would be a good guess then look at the 4R55E

Automatics have an integrated bell housing, so to bolt to your 4.0l, trans had to come from a 4.0l(2.9l had same block as 4.0l)

4.0l Ranger had A4LD from '90(first year) to '94, then 4R55E, '95 to '01

I looks like a4LD the gasket does but when I went to get the auto parts the filter is smaller so I ask for a 95 and it was the same one as my old one

a4ld. Looks like mine when I went to the auto parts store thy give me a filter but the gasket look like the a4ld but it was smaller so I ask for a 95 year and it was like my old one everything was the same

I was looking and in top it has like where you hook a hose but it doesnt have any there any ideas unless is jist like a breather ?
